dc.description.abstract | This study utilizes the historical approach to analyze the Palestine Question with its relevance to the United Nations. However, any historical study of the problem is incomplete without a careful look into the origins of the conflict. The thesis introduction presents the issues, terms, scope, and method. The second chapter provides a historical background of the Palestine Question. It deals with the origins of the British Mandate in Palestine and the following events. Chapter three is on the international implications of the Palestine Question. The author believes that Palestine became an international problem long before the year 1947, when Great Britain referred the Question to the United Nations. To be exact, the Balfour Declaration of the year 1917, was the first signal inviting international involvement. Chapter four deals with the United Nations responsibility towards finding a peaceful settlement, after the proclamation of the state of Israel and the entry of the Arab armies into Palestine. The 6hapter also stresses the importance of the Armistice Agreements signed in the year 1949. The findings of the study are drawn out in the concluding Chapter. | |
