Abstract
This project focuses on how architecture can play its part within the transient realms of culture and customs. The traditional african market place was one of the most vital institutions of African communities. It was one of the few places that culture was experienced and displayed in its glory; it was a place that inherently expressed varied meanings and uses to the society. With the change in culture, some traits that strongly identified the african has been ignored within the built environment. This project focuses on what these cultural tendencies are and how it can be accommodated within the context of the built environment. With the insight and knowledge of how the traditional african market place located in west Africa functioned, one is able to create concepts and re-enact it into frameworks that would be able to function today.
