This paper outlines an OASIS implementation of the Unix operating system. OASIS is an extension of the SIMULA programming language which has been designed to facilitate the \fIimplementation\fR and \fIsimulation\fR of modular operating systems. Unix was chosen to test OASIS facilities for developing modular programs because it is both a conceptually simple and widely used operating system. The objectives of the new design are to make the implementation easy to understand, test and modify.eng
