Item Open Access Because Covid(2021-01-09) Munroe, Karena; Greene Freire, CollectiveThis video, is part of my doctoral thesis "School Wellness Action Research: From an Arts-Based Transformative Activist Stance". It shares the story of how my initial study plan went from including students, teachers, and artists in face-to-face arts activities to being an arts-based virtual focus group/field test with educators because of the lockdown restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It stars the Free-Spirited Eagle who flew with the concepts, Fun Loving Red Fox who engaged primarily for personal enjoyment, Hardworking Beaver who diligently moved forward, Brave Bobcat with big picture ideas, Wise Owl who offered the type of profound insights only a veteran practitioner could, Loving Porcupine who supports unconditionally, and Clever Raven, the reflective voice who provided thoughtful direction. It tells a relatable story about agency, resiliency, and community and learning through the COVID-19 pandemic. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to the Greene Freire Collective, in particular the artist who gave generously of herself when she created and gifted the visuals that accompany our story of a study adjusted. There are reflective questions at the end of the video to help you reflect on your own learning during the remote emergency learning experience. In this literature review the authors draw on a combination of literature gathered by the Battle River School Division as well as literature gathered by researchers. The literature review is organized with an overview and followed by these sections: (1) capacity building, (2) leadership development, (3) professional learning, (4) assessing growth. At the end of the literature review a synthesis is provided along with recommendations for system leaders interested in designing professional learning for leaders in their districts.Item Open Access The Construct of Resilience(2022-07-17) Bello, JhonattanIllustrates the connections among the different topics related to resilience in education that were expanded in the literature review.Item Open Access Emergent themes for the development of resilience(2022-07-17) Bello, JhonattanFive major themes emerged in this study, which are reflective of the research questions. The themes that emerged were (1) creating a safe and trusting environment, (2) focusing on a meaningful goal, (3) clarifying expectations, (4) modeling flexible thinking, and (5) finding the right stories to tell yourself. The first theme, creating a safe and trusting environment, focused on how instructors created spaces in which students felt safe to try new skills and make mistakes, thereby fostering relationships between students and instructors as well as among students themselves. The second theme explained how instructors included the practice of refining goals in their course, aiming to organize priorities and refocus on what really matters to students. The third theme, clarifying the expectations, described the ways in which instructors took the time to create realistic and appropriate expectations. The fourth theme captured the importance of instructors being able to model flexible thinking. Finally, the fifth theme, finding the right stories to tell yourself, described how the inclusion of Indigenous knowledge and narrative approaches was being used in undergraduate programs to switch perspective from challenges to a journey approach, making students more resilient.Item Open Access Framework for the development of resilience(2022-07-17) Bello, JhonattanThe strategies found in the study "Promoting resilience in post-secondary students: A case study" by Jhonattan Bello, were presented in a logical procedure to be implemented in the classroom. This framework represents the approach of instructors when they facilitated the promotion of resilience. The framework for the development of resilience starts with the creation of a safe environment with trusting relationships. Then spend some time finding the purpose or meaningful goal that will allow students and instructors to think about the path to follow and set some realistic expectations about the process to get there. Once students have focused on a meaningful goal and started the journey, many adversities will become more evident. Sharing stories and creating a plan that integrates the resources and experiences found in those stories will also become a crucial tool for the process of resilience. Instructors will support students all the time by modelling flexible thinking and showing ways to navigate the resources needed to succeed. This figure is a resulting piece from the "Emergent themes for the development of resilience" figure created by Jhonattan Bello
